Greig Taylor joins BTB – ‘Life In A Swag’

5 December 2011

The challenges of PNG will be 24/7. PNG is a collection of hundreds of family groups, clans, tribes and languages – which includes some 300+ known languages and many unknown. Thus dealing with indigenous people, communities, culture’s and customs with enthusiasm is imperative.

Greig ‘GT’ Taylor has lived out of a swag in the top end of Australia for the better half of the last 15 years. Living and working with indigenous people allows GT to understand the many challenges expatriate workers and western society face when living in indigenous communities.

Over to GT, ‘I can’t wait to get into PNG. It’s like the last frontier. Having worked and lived with over a dozen different Aboriginal groups in the Northern Territory and Western Australia during the last 15 years you get to learn a little bit about how similar we, as a western society are as well as the noticeable differences. Indigenous cultures are ingrained with respect, custom and expectation. We know this will be the same in PNG and I think it’s going to be the experience of a lifetime’.

Peter Tomlin who has been working with the Esso Angola Drill Team throughout 2011 as a Safety Coach stated, ‘GT is going to be a huge asset to the team in PNG. He has a real knack for working with indigenous cultures and is passionate about safety. Leading remote tours and educational groups throughout the top end of Australia, and working with local tribes, is no easy task. GT’s keen as mustard and we know he is going to make a great coach in PNG’.
